Indian Muslims for Progress and Reforms (IMPAR), the apex body of more than 10,000 prominent Muslims of India and Indian origin worldwide, is launching a campaign against Religious Extremism and Radicalization It's the Indian citizen's voice to counter violent extremism and to collect one million signatures and submit to the Hon’ble President of India.
The recent Udaipur case is really tragic. Equally tragic have been cases of Pehlu Khan, and many others in the recent past. Such violent, uncivilized acts have no place in a country like India. But unfortunately, communal divide and hatred is growing day by day. And it’s happening in the name of religion. Every religion teaches tolerance, peace, mercy, compassion, and forgiveness. What makes religious people indulge in the most irreligious acts of indulging in violence and killing in the name of religion itself.
The ugly face of religious extremism and violence will create an atmosphere of intolerance, hate, and distrust, and make the world a lesser safe place to live. The campaign is to amplify the call for actions to prevent extremism. It's a call to every single Indian to commit to the fight against Extremism in any form, which is damaging our identity as a multicultural peace-loving nation, globally.
It's just not enough to condemn violent extremism, we need to uproot it. And this calls for a shift from a distorted interpretation of culture, rituals, beliefs, and ignorance. Dialogues must be encouraged across all boundary lines and better understanding and appreciation of the common message of all religions. Religious leaders and scholars must come forward to speak about it and youth to act on it to spread the message of love, care, and empathy.
We call upon like-minded people to join and support this campaign through all social media platforms and sign the petition for the message of peace, harmony, justice, humanity, and compassion to be spread. Given the prevailing situation, it’s really important for all peace-loving people to come forward and take pledges against intolerance and extremism, hate agenda and violence, and fake news and propaganda. The politics of human welfare and nation-building must defeat the politics of appeasement or the politics of polarization.
